Survey on Licensed Wells in Ca Mau Province - Results, Evaluation and Recommendations
2020
The abilities of DONREs to fully implement well licensing procedures, especially the timely inspection, quantification and control of the continuously growing groundwater (GW) extractions, are still limited. In order to verify and codify the available data and information on licensed production wells for better management, IGPVN and Ca Mau DONRE carried out a survey on licensed GW
production wells in Ca Mau Province from November 2018 until Feb 2019. The purpose of the survey was: (1) developing a procedure to keep groundwater well licenses up-to-date, (2) providing a status quo of licensed wells and groundwater abstraction, (3) identifying possible challenges in implementing current water legislation, and (4) providing training and equipment to DONRE Ca Mau to improve investigation capacity on groundwater license implementation status and groundwater management capacity.
The Technical Report TR-IV-01 describes the approach, implementation and results of the survey in detail. It is complemented by a comprehensive database of licenses and licensed wells, together with specific recommendations. A set of training documents for the well survey such as leaflet, handout, district maps were generated. Survey data was used in several other products like on groundwater salinity (TN-IV-03) and hygiene protection zones at water supply wells (TR-IV-02).
