Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) in the Mekong Delta - Guidelines for local authorities and decision-makers
Hanoi, May 2025

This brochure provides an overview of aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) as the most applicable managed aquifer recharge (MAR) method for the confined aquifers in the Mekong Delta. MAR has been outlined as a possible solution in the water resources plan for the Mekong River Basin (NAWAPI, 2023). The brochure is intended for decision-makers from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Ministry of Construction, local authorities, funding organisations and implementers like water supply companies, with incomplete technical background. This document tries to simplify technical concepts and to provide insights for decision-making. It focuses on ASR as a tool to improve water security for domestic use in the Mekong Delta.
