Drilling of new infiltration wells for NAWAPI MAR pilot at Vi Thanh, Hau Giang Province

On Aug 29th 2023, the CRMGG team visited drilling works for two new wells on the premises of HAWASUCO in Vi Thanh that will be used by NAWAPI for a Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) pilot. The wells GK1 (140-170 m screen depth) and GK2 (84-104 m screen depth) will be used to infiltrate treated surface water into the ground during a series of short experiments to evaluate how much water can be infiltrated using gravity flow. Once the surface water treatment system is installed, NAWAPI will begin with the trials. CRMGG will be supporting the monitoring of water quality to see if there are geochemical interactions between the oxygenated surface water and the anoxic groundwater that might lead to clogging or degradation of water quality.
