Drilling in Ca Mau province
Within the Technical Assistance component, the IGPVN project supports the construction of a well group in U Minh town, Ca Mau province. The well group will consist of 5 wells designed for hydrogeological investigations and experiments, aiming to obtain detailed information on the local geology and hydrogeologic conditions.
The more general goal is to gain an improved understanding of the composition and the hydrogeologic properties of the coastal groundwater system in the Mekong Delta. In particular, the new wells will contribute to investigate the interaction between water-bearing layers (aquifers), in order to better understand salinization processes of the groundwater. Thus, the well group will prospectively be used to conduct pumping and tracer tests.
In this regard, IGPVN is happy to announce that drilling for the well group startedat the end of July 2016. The drilling is carried out by the Division for Water Resources Planning and Investigation for the South of Vietnam (CWRPIS). Besides the installation of wells reaching depths of up to 300 m below surface level, the drilling campaign will provide disturbed and undisturbed soil samples which will be analyzed in laboratories in Vietnam, Germany, and the Netherlands.
