Delineation of hygiene protection zones for domestic water supply wells - A feasibility study on Circular 24/2016/TT-BTNMT in Ca Mau province
2021
The purpose of delineating hygiene protection zones (HPZ) for domestic water supply wells is (i) to prevent pollution of domestic water sources, (ii) to protect the water quality for public health, and (iii) to reduce efforts required for raw water treatment, operational costs and ultimately water price for domestic use. Based on results from the well survey (IGPVN TR-IV-01, 2020), this feasibility study was conducted to improve the capacity of DONRE Ca Mau to implement the legal regulations on water resources, focused on:
- reviewing the conventional basis and approach to sanitary protection of wells;
- review the regulation on HPZ delineation in Circular 24/2016/TT-BTNMT;
- review the potential for implementation in Ca Mau;
- develop procedures and recommendations for future implementation by well owners and DONRE/PPC.
The IGPVN project also designed and constructed two Demonstration Model for wellhead protection at two production wells for centralized domestic water supply in Ca Mau Province as a best practice that can be visited in the field.
