Second workshop on integrated water resources management
Following the first successful workshop on July 9th 2010, the Center for Water Resources Planning and Investigation (CWRPI) has cooperated with the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources, Germany (BGR) to organize 2nd workshop on “Integrated Water Resources Management” on 6th December 2010, in the framework of the Project and the effort to push forwards the process of integrated water resources management in Vietnam and to raise the awareness of the society on this issue.
Invited at the workshop are more than 50 participants representing for the Department for Water Resources Management (DWRM), other subordinates organs from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), representatives from different agencies belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), CWRPI experts and German experts working for the Project, Academy for water resources planning, Institute for Geological Sciences, University for Mining and Minerals, Me Kong River Committee, CWRPI’s Divisions and the DONREs of Ha Noi, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Soc Trang and Quang Ngai…
Many subject matters are brought and discussed at the Workshop, remarkably are groundwater and water security in the context of integrated water resources management in Vietnam by Mr. Jelle Van Gijn – Consultant of Urban Water Supply and Sanitation from Asian Development Bank (ADB), Mrs. Nguyen Hong Phuong with integrated water resources management of Me Kong River Basin (Me Kong River Committee), which highlighted the challenges of each country including Vietnam and the whole region in the effort of integrated water resources management in this River Basin, Dr. Frank Wagner with the interpretation of the Project results from groundwater protection in Nam Dinh and the relation with integrated water resources management, Mr. Junker Martin with the Draft of Water resources Monitoring and Evaluation Standards in Vietnam, Mr. Le Dinh Dung and Water Resources database for IWRM and others. It can be seen that the subject of integrated water resources management are discussed and analyzed from many different aspects: from technical points of views like the presentations from Dr. Wagner and Mr. Dung to managerial prospective such as the speeches of Mr. Martin Junker or the case study of MeKong River Basin by Mrs Nguyen Hoang Phuong. This is to prove the complexity of the issue, which in deed needs the involvement of all the stakeholders including institutional management agencies to every individual and overall the whole society for a better water resources for future.
The workshop culminated in an open discussion, in which the audience directed questions to the presenters.
