BMZ and German Implementing Agencies jointly visit the Mekong Delta

A delegation led by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) visited several partners and project sites in the Mekong Delta from 21-24 April 2023 to gain insights into the current situation and challenges and learn about success stories from German-funded cooperation activities. This included a visit to the integrated Groundwater, Soil, Climate and Land Subsidence monitoring site developed by NAWAPI with KIT and other German partners under the VIWAT Engineering Project. The site in Ca Mau Province counts among the most modern and advanced installations for land subsidence monitoring in Vietnam and South-East-Asia. Following a background briefing by BGR, scientists and technical experts from NAWAPI, KIT and the German Hydrometry Company SEBA introduced the installations and presented first results from the initial observation period. BGR and VIWAT research partners cooperate closely in the analysis and sharing of groundwater dynamics and trends in the Mekong Delta, to better inform policy development and evidence-based decision making.

Scientists Mr Tran Viet Hoan (NAWAPI-KIT) and Mr Felix Dörr (KIT) inform about the site.
