In frame of the project \u201cClimate Resilient Management of Groundwater and Geohazards (CRMGG)\u201d, BGR supported two representatives of NAWAPI to attend the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union 2024 (EGU 24) in Vienna, Austria from 14 to 18 April 2024.<\/p>\n

Dr. Trieu Duc Huy, NAWAPI\u2019s Deputy Director General, and Dr. Bui Du Duong, Director of Science, Technology and International Cooperation Department, represented NAWAPI during the event.<\/p>\n

Their first presentation \u201cCriteria for selection of technology to exploit groundwater in water scare area in Vietnam\u201d in the session “Groundwater management in the context of global change” briefly reviewed the situation of groundwater, the challenges faced and the proposed solutions for the management in high mountain areas in the context of climate change.<\/p>\n

The second presentation \u201cAI- Empowered near real-time operational prediction system of landslides in Lao Cai Province, Vietnam” in the session \u201cOperational forecasting and warning systems for natural hazards and climate emergency: challenges and innovations\u201d highlighted the increased risk of landslides due to increased precipitation during the rainy season and the generation of landslide susceptibility maps using AI.<\/p>\n

The event was a great opportunity for NAWAPI to present themselves and joining the global networks on water, exposing themselves to the various key players in the fields such as BGR, AGU, NASA; EESA, Global Hydrological Observation, Status System (HydroSOS) and beyond.<\/p>\n

This year, the EGU 24 was organized by the Austrian General Assembly and was open to experts from around the world interested in the geoscience field of Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences, Geology and Groundwater Resources. The conference was a great platform for scientists to present their works, discuss their ideas and share the latest developments in the field. It was also promoting the connection and collaboration of the scientists at the global scale.<\/p>\n
